Shops, houses gutted in fire

Imphal, June 08 2014:
Altogether seven shops at Naoremthong Bazar in Imphal West district have been completely destroyed in a fire that broke out in the wee hours today.
Reports said property worth lakhs of rupees have been lost in the fire believed to have been sparked from a grocery shop and spread to other nearby shops.
A LPG cylinder which exploded in the fire from a tea hotel acted as fanning the inferno.
Just after reaching the news, personnel of Imphal Fire Service rushed in and tried to douse the fire.
It took around two hours to bring the fire under control.
However, it could not save the shops from reducing to ashes.
Meanwhile, in another fire incident which took place at Top Mayai Leikai under Porompat Police Station today around 1.30 am, two thatch-roofed houses were reduced to ciders.
The ill-fated houses belong to Laikhuram Tompok and his brother L Ibochoubi of Top Mayai Leikai.
A team of Imphal Fire Service came in and extinguished the fire.
However, most parts of the houses have been destroyed by the time the fire was doused.
