Houses, shops gutted

Imphal, June 08 2014:
At least two houses and five shops have been gutted in two separate incidents this morning.
Sources informed that the first incident of fire broke out at around 12.30 am at Top Mayai Leikai, Imphal East district under Porompat police station.
The raging fire which originated from the kitchen of Leikham Tompok spread its wings ravaged the adjoining house belonging to Tompok's elder brother Leikham Ibochouba.
It is reported that both the houses were completely reduced to cinders.
The raging fire was brought under control with the arrival of fire tenders from Manipur Fire Service before it could spread to other structures/houses.
It is estimated that properties worth several lakhs have been destroyed.
The second incident of fire mishap happened at Naoremthong Bazar, Imphal West at around 2.30 pm.
The inferno reduced five shops to ashes.
The devastated shops included an eatery/hotel, grocery shop, scooter workshop, fish stall and a pan stall.
The fire was doused off after the arrival of fire tenders.
Like in the first case, goods worth several lakhs have been gutted.
