Chakpi bodies to protest

Residents of Chakpikarong in Chandel district have decided to protest the alleged substandard construction works being executed in the Sub-Division.
The decision was taken after representatives of Anal Naga Tangpi, Anallon Chiefs Association, Anal Naga Chiefs' Association, Chakpikarong Sub-Division, Anal Naga Students' Union, Chakpikarong Branch and Chakpikarong Bazar Board conducted an inspection drive of these works.
Speaking to reporters, Chakpikarong Bazar Board Chairman NL Wolhring said that the contractor concerned was not able to maintain quality in the construction of a slab culvert on Chakpikarong-Challong, Phiran Machet road despite wholehearted cooperation extended by villagers to him.
Saying that the culvert showed defects on many aspects he demanded that the culvert be reconstructed again.
NL Wolhring said that construction of Chakpikarong-Challong, Phiran Machet road having a total length of 13.20 km was started in June 2013 .
The road construction which is being executed with funds from Union Ministry of Rural Development is to be completed by November 2014, he added.
The Chairman said that the contractors concerned must seek support and consult the locals in executing the work.
He added that the Government must give preference to local contractors for better execution of the work.
He also appealed for early and timely completion of the ongoing construction work of the power sub-station located at Salluk so that the problem of power supply in the Sub-Division is solved.
General Secretary of Anal Naga Students Union Chakpikarong Sub-Division, Hl Jeremiah Anal urged the Government to appoint a full time Headmaster for Chakpikarong Government High School.
The post has been lying vacant for a long time while pointing of various difficulties faced by the staff and students without its head.
