DPR for taking up 102 MI schemes sent

Imphal, June 08 2014:
In a significant move, Manipur Government's Minor Irrigation Department has sent a Detailed Project Report (DPR) to the Ministry of Water Resources proposing to take up 102 Minor Irrigation (MI) schemes in the State under the Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme (AIBP).
The proposed 102 MI schemes are expected to supply irrigation water to nearly 12,908 hectares of paddy fields in different districts of the State.
Implementation of these schemes is estimated to cost a sum of Rs 170.37 crore, official sources informed Hueiyen Lanpao Saturday.
Altogether, 125 Pick Up Worker Schemes under AIBP have already been taking up in the nine districts of the State with an aim to supply irrigation water to 9,248 hectares of paddy fields.
Another 36 RLI schemes in Chandel, Bishnupur, Imphal East and Imphal West districts are expected to provide irrigation water to 2,293 hectares of paddy fields.
One irrigation tank each in Thoubal, Chandel and Bishnupur are also being constructed to give water to another 322 hectares of paddy fields.
The 165 schemes taken up under AIBP are likely to feed a total of 11,863 hectares of paddy fields.
In Manipur, Minor Irrigation schemes are implemented in two different categories�Surface Flow Scheme and Lift Irrigation Scheme�the first category covers Pick Up Worker, Mini Barrage, Irrigation Tank while the second includes drawing water from rivers by using pump sets.
