Imphal, February 06 2022:
Reacting to the allegations levelled against former minister Congress MLA I Hemochandra by Singjamei BJP Mandal president Kshetrimayum Rajen, Singjamei Block Congress Committee (SJCC) has warned of lodging a defamation suit against the latter.
Addressing a press meet held at the Block Committee's office on Sunday, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) legal department vice chairman S Shyamcharan Singh condemned the statements made by Singjamei BJP Mandal against I Hemochandra.
Recently, Singjamei constituency is seeing frequent confrontations between BJP and NPP and as such, being a senior politician, Hemochandra appealed to all concerned via the media for maintaining peace and calm.
"However, Singjamei BJP Mandal president Kshetrimayum Rajen used Hemochandra's appeal to demand the latter to clarify to the public or he (Rajen) would be initiating legal action.
Hemochandra's appeal was for holding the elections democratically and peacefully.
But Singjamei BJP Mandal tried to tarnish his (Hemochandra's) reputation, claiming that the Congress MIA accused speaker Y Khemchand of inciting poll violence, which is not true," he contended.
Shyamcharan continued: "SJCC challenges the false allegations and speculations made by Singjamei BJP Mandal.
It is not impossible for the Committee to file a defamation suit against Rajen.
"Additionally, BJP has alleged that Hemochandra suppressed the police investigation in a bomb attack carried out at his house in Singjamei in 2012.Hemochandra has been extending full cooperation and support to the investigation, and he has no dispute with the injured victim as has been alleged.
SJCC is working hard to ensure Hemochandra's success in the polls, and does not want to waste time squabbling with BJP," he contended.
The press meet was also attended by SJCC president H Haradhara, City District Congress Committee ex-president K Jayananda Sharma, MPCC secretary advocate Jayantakumar, and MPCC Vichar Vibaag chairman advocate A Chandrakumar Singh.
