Imphal, February 06 2022:
Kanglei Indigenous Martial Arts and Cultural Society (KIMACS) has spoken out against the culture of certain private diagnostic centres trying to have a monopoly over patients seeking treatment at the residential treatment centres/clinics of doctors.
In a statement, KIMACS shared that the representatives of these diagnostic centres persuade the ailing people to get their recommended diagnostic tests done at their diagnostic centres and to top it off, charge excessive rates for the aforementioned tests.
KIMACS went on to say that when their suggestions are refused, these representatives inform the patients that the suggestions are made on the doctor's recommendation.
If the tests are done at a different diagnostic centre or at a Govt hospital, the prices would be markedly cheaper, KIMACS said, however, the innocent patients are deprived of these options, it added.
The statement asserted that this destructive trend is an encroachment on the rights of the patients and an evil tactic to drain people of their hard earned money.
KIMACS also shared that there is growing discontent among some patient parties in regards to this price-gouging tactic carried out in the name of 'patient care' .
As such, KIMACS has appealed to the authorities concerned to look into the matter and has demanded a regularisation of the excessive rates charged on diagnostic tests.
Further, the organisation has also stated that it will keep a close eye on the representatives of private diagnostic centres involved in this reprehensible act.
