Sagolmang CHC to be upgraded to 100-bedded Hospital: Speaker Lokeshwar

Asserting that Sagolmang Community Health Centre in Imphal East has been ensured 24X7 services from today, Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly, Th Lokeshwar announced that the CHC would be upgraded to a 100-bedded District Hospital soon.
The Speaker was speaking on the sidelines of a surprise visit paid to the CHC today.
He was accompanied by O Ibomcha, Director of Health, Government of Manipur.
Surprisingly, several staffs of the CHC failed to recognize the Speaker.
When the Speaker himself revealed his identity, the staffs were taken aback.
During the inspection, X-Ray machine, Ultrasound and Blood Bank of the CHC were found ceased to use.
A driver and Grade IV staff of the centre were also found drunk.

Fumed at the condition and conduct of the staffs of the centre, the Speaker directed that the CHC should function 24X7 from today and that those staffs found neglecting their duties would be either suspended or dismissed.
The two staffs who were found drunk submitted a written statement each to the Speaker and Director tending apology for their unwanted conduct.
Speaking to media persons, Speaker Lokeshwar said that efforts have been put in to ensure that the CHC run effectively, while expressing strong discontentment over some staffs of the centre neglecting their duties.
Stating that he was disheartened on coming across that medical equipments supplied to the centre way back in 2007 were not utilized properly, the Speaker pledged that those staffs of the centre found neglecting their duties will not be spared.
Though Sagolmang CHC falls under the jurisdiction of Khundrakpam Constituency, people from other nearby constituencies also come for treatment in the centre.
Taking into account of its importance, the CHC will be upgraded to a 100-bedded District Hospital, Imphal East; he said.
Maintaining that construction of building of the CHC in tandem with its acknowledgement as a District Hospital would be started from December 5, the Speaker said that acres of land needed for conversion of the CHC into a District Hospital is 8-10 pari.
90 percent of the total construction cost of the District Hospital will be borne by the Central Government while the State Government will bear the remaining 10 percent cost, he added.
The Speaker said that efforts will be put in to ensure that construction of the District Hospital is completed by the end of 2015 .
