Imphal, December 02, 2014:
Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has cautioned that they would not remain silent if the ongoing college teachers' stir creates disturbance to the academic atmosphere of the colleges of the State.
Speaking at a press meet held at their office, DESAM general secretary Pukhrambam Premchandra said that the student's body has been keeping a close tab on the teachers' stir.
He said that following an advertisement issued by Manipur Public Service Commission (MPSC), 84 teachers applied for the vacant 25 posts of college Principals.
However, MPSC appointed regular Principals for three colleges only, Premchandra said and alleged that in the said recruitment process, MPSC had ignored many teachers who are even eligible to take classes at the University level.
On the other hand, the three appointed candidates do not possess the required qualification to be a regular college Principal, he said and added that these alleged wrongful appointments have prompted the All Manipur College Teachers Association (AMCTA) to launch a stir, Premchandra added.
As such, college students are now in a complete dilemma as the college teachers have decided to boycott the first and fifth semester examinations of BA, BSc, BCom demanding immediate revocation of the appointment of the three regular Principals, he added.
Alleging that the Education Minister and Chief Minister have sidelined the issue which is currently disturbing the mind of college students, Premchandra urged the teachers and Government to resolve the issue at the earliest.
Stating that DESAM would continue to cleanse the corrupt practices in the education sector, Premchandra cautioned that they would act befittingly if the current standoff disturbs the academic atmosphere.
In this regard, he added, DESAM would hold a joint meeting of the student unions of all the colleges of the State at DESAM office at 11 am on December 3. Premchandra also urged the representatives of these unions to take part in the meeting.
