Fish farming training programme held

Five days training programme on scientific fish farming, organised by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Imphal West under the sponsorship of National Fisheries Development Board, Hyderabad, was inaugurated today at ICAR Regional Complex, Imphal.
Around 30 fish farmers attended the inaugural function with K Saratkumar Singh, Director of Fisheries, Government of Manipur, Dr N Prakash, Joint Director, ICAR Manipur Centre as the chief guest and functional president.
Chief guest Saratkumar advised the farmers to adopt new technologies like high density stocking and rearing of sterile fish for higher production.
Dr Prakash said though most of the people in the State consume fish, the State is facing a total deficit of about 10000 MT of fish.
He added that the gap could be bridged by adopting scientific management practices and proper utilization of existing ponds and water bodies.
He pointed out that the portable hatchers provided by ICAR to farmers of Purul village, Senapati district could generate good income.
The five day long training programme would educate the farmers in fish farming by various resource persons.
