Imphal, December 02, 2014:
The proscribed People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) has declared its Chairman Ningombam Nabachandra and Finance Secretary Potsangbam Chinglen as deserters.
According to a statement issued by PREPAK's Assistant Secretary of Publicity and Propaganda Leipakngakpa Luwang, Chairman Ningomba Nabachandra alias Naba alias Nongdrenkhomba (55), son of (late) N Iboyaima of Thangmeiband Lourungpurel Leikai, but presently staying at Thangmeiband Hijam Dewan Leikai and Finance Secretary Potsangbam Chinglen alias London (44), son of (late) P Prithibi of Chingmeirong Laipham Khundou have deserted the party and taken refuge in the camp of Indian security force since November 19 last month.
Nabachandra first came into contact with the PREPAK in February, 1982.He actively worked for the outfit till May, 1985.After that he was assigned no task by the party leaders, except taking shelter at his residence.
He was even arrested by the security force and jailed for harbouring the party leaders.
He again joined the outfit in 1993 at a crucial time when there was formation of a reactionary group called 'KMY'.
Nabachandra joined the collective leadership of the PREPAK from April 1, 1993 to November 30, 1993.He then held the post of Home Secretary from December 1, 1993.However, he was arrested from Mahabali area along with some persons by Manipur Police Commando on January 3, 1996.He spent some time in jail and at his home.
The 'deserted' Chairman again joined the outfit as Vice-Chairman from May 8, 1997.Later, he took the charge of 'Project' from January 1, 2006 to June 10, 2011 with immense interest in the financial matters.
On June 11, 2011 he was elected the Chairman of the Central Committee after convening the National Party Congress, the statement said.
Further, Nabachandra attended a meeting of the outfit convened on November 14 last month.
The meeting resolved to scrap the financial responsibilities of the Chairman other than the monitoring role.
However, important agendas including presentation of account statement of Rs.2,40,00,000 and purchase of four-wheelers and land by the Chairman in his personal interest were left for discussion in the next meeting scheduled on November 20 last month.
But, he along with Finance Secretary London remained out of contact from 2 pm of November 19.Chinglen reportedly handed over Rs.40,00,000 to the Chairman out of Rs.59,49,992 which was in his custody.
The Finance Secretary was also grilled by other members of the Finance Committee for that irresponsible financial dealing.
An amount of Rs.19,49,992 was also found missing from the trunk after they deserted the camp, the statement said.
It further alleged that the two deserters Nabachandra and Chinglen were blots to the revolutionary movement of Manipur.
They had joined the revolution with the promise to bring back the lost freedom of the Manipuri people, but they turned out to be selfish people who are trying only to amass personal wealth in the name of revolutionary struggle.
PREPAK also appealed to all to render utmost help and support to the true revolutionary leaders and weed out the fake revolutionaries who are trying to ruin the freedom struggle of Manipur.
