Imphal, April 18 2015 :
Students and parents of Catholic School, Canchipur in Imphal West staged a sit-in protest on Saturday in front of the school main gate demanding immediate resumption of normal classes.
They demanded that the classes should be opened from Monday.
All four Catholic schools in Imphal were forced to close down since April 1 after an underground group reportedly imposed an indefinite ban on these Catholic society-run institutes over refusal to give reservation to the marginalized section.
One of the parents, taking part in the demonstration, said the policy of banning schools will only spoil the career of students especially those who cannot afford to pay private tuition fee outside schools.
He said schools are the only places where the poor students can get wisdom and knowledge.
The protestors appealed to the underground group and also the school authority to allow resumption of normal classes from coming Monday.
Placards which read "Permit us to study" and "We want to study" were held by the students during the protest.
