Imphal, April 18 2015 :
Demanding immediate end to the ban being imposed on Catholic schools, the All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has said that its members, along with other organisations, would guard the schools by forming human chain if the ban is not lifted by April 21 .
In a press meet held today at its head office, general secretary of AMSU, Manjit Sarangthem said that AMSU is ready to face any consequences thereof.
AMSU has made several appeals to lift the boycott.
However, till today the ban has not been removed and it has caused serious threat to the careers of thousands of students, he added.
AMSU will not be a mute spectator to the incident but fight for the rights of the students, he pledged.
The student leader also lambasted the alleged stoic silence maintained by the State Govt on the matter.
No organisations or agencies should victimize students in their quest for their demands to be fulfilled.
He also appealed to the school authorities, parents and van service providers to help AMSU in its efforts to save the academic career of students.
Meanwhile, the All Naga Students' Association, Mani-pur (ANSAM) has appealed to every armed group of the State particularly Kangleipak Communist Party, KCP (MC) to keep education free from intimidation and threats.
ANSAM, in a statement, said the attacks on educational institutions, schools and its administration have been recurring in different forms in the State and the latest ban by an armed group forcing an indefinite cessation of all the Catholic schools in Imphal is appalling and undignified.
It said instead of helping the students, such steps will exacerbate unequal access to education and create more gaps and tensions as most students who can afford are already pursuing their studies outside the State.
"We need to collectively push and encourage the younger generation to excel in education that we may overcome the imperialism of our culture and identity if that is what we are protecting," ANSAM stated.
ANSAM then called upon all like minded individuals and organizations to extend support and solidarity in ending violence and attacks on education.
