The North Eastern region cannot inch forward if there is unbridled corruption despite liberal assistance by the centre.
The BJP national president Amit Shah said so while addressing a public meeting at Hao ground in Imphal on Saturday.
He is on a two-day tour in Manipur ahead of the elections of the Autonomous District Council scheduled on June 1 .
He was initially scheduled to arrive here from Kohima by a helicopter.
However in a last minute change of itinerary he elected to come from Kohima to Imphal by the bumpy national highway.
Shah said that during the prime ministership of AB Vajyapee the DONER was formed.
The present Prime Minister Narendra Modi has done so many things for the NE region and fund is not wanting.

The Prime Minister is deputing ministers to go to the NE region at regular intervals.
Besides high officials are also visiting here to monitor various developmental works.
If the money is not spent judiciously by checking corruption the people will not be benefitted.
He exhorted the people to vote for the BJP candidates for a corruption-free governments.
He said that the union governmet has sanctioned money for a sports university in Manipur and the international players of Manipur will get maximum benefits.
He also said that the present Congress government in Manipur is not paying proper attention to the scheudled caste and scheduled tribes.
He also said that the Act East policy will benefit the NE states.
The BJP national general secretary Ram Lal said that the BJP is emerging as the biggest political party in the world.
It has the highest number of MPs in the country.
Tapir Gao, TH Chaoba and others were also present in the meeting.
Soon after arrival in Imphal from Kohima at 4 pm he and his entourage went to the residence of Chaoba at Utlou for a Manipri dish lunch.
Later he came to address the public meeting in Imphal.
He will leave for Delhi tomorrow.
