Imphal, April 18 2015 :
Centre for Social Development (CSD) has expressed serious concern over the recent incidents plaguing the State especially 'atrocities' meted out to women and children.
On Saturday, the centre organized a press meet at its office at the Palace Compound.
CSD convenor Sobita Mangsatabam said there is not any sign of improving the law and order situation in Manipur.
She was visibly distressed by the tragic death of a 75-year-old woman who was trying to collect her pension money by standing in a long congested queue at 1st Manipur Rifles ground on April 16.Sobita also cited the recent murder of a differently-abled minor girl, Shumila at Boryayangbi.
The victim girl was murdered while she was herding back her cattle, she mentioned.
Apart from these two incidents, Sobita said there had been media reports on April 16 that a legally wedded wife of one person whose alleged dead body had been cremated years back, was found settled with another man named.
She said such an incident is a mockery to the established law.
Such social and political conditions may in the informal context be considered and regarded as the stark symptoms of becoming a failed State where governance by the ruling representatives of the people merely exhibit words and comments but missing out the conduct of intervention and action to solve the real issues.
The CSD leader stated that keeping in view of such inaction on the part of the Government to deal with crimes and offences clearly put up a question mark as to whether any Government is functioning in Manipur now.
She demanded that the Home Department and the Department of Social Welfare and the Chief Minister must lend out their commitment to serve the public.
