Bandh called off

The indefinite bandh along Imphal-Moreh imposed by the JAC against the killing of Rifleman Laita Wanoireng Aimol has been called off from midnight today following an agreement between represen-tatives of the JAC and State Government.
Convenor of the JAC, Martin Tholung Lamkang informed that representatives of the JAC held a meeting with Chief Minister O Ibobi, De-puty Chief Minister Gaikha- ngam along with Tengnoupal Assembly Constituency MLA D Korungthang at Congress Bhavan today.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister assured the JAC members to institute a Magisterial enquiry into the incident which would be headed by IGP Kailun.
The Chief Minister also assured to provide an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh to the deceased family members and a job to the deceased rifleman's wife.
Following the assurances of the State Government, the JAC decided to call off the indefinite bandh.
However, in early morning before the indefinite bandh was called off, bandh supporters blocked traffic movement along Imphal-Moreh road in Pallel.
Vehicles commuting patients and other emergency services were exempted from the bandh.
No untoward incident was reported.
