Poverty reduction plan achievement mela held

With the support of Manipur State Rural Livelihood Mission, five VLFs of Chanam Sandrok GP and youth clubs along with line departments organised a one-day poverty reduction plan achievement mela at Chanam Sandrok Phunal Ningthou community hall on Thursday.
Speaking as chief guest of the programme, Keirao MLA L Rameshwar called upon artisans and self-help groups involved in handloom and handicrafts sector to produce quality items so as to replace the products imported from outside the state so as to help improve economy of the state.
Pointing out that the central and state governments have banned single use plastic items in the state as well, Rameshwar said that actions and penalties for violation had been announced and further urged the people to use eco-friendly and biodegradable items instead of single use plastic items.
As such, making paper and canvas bags from used clothes by self-help groups to replace plastic carry bags will be a successful venture, he opined, while exhorting self-help groups to come up with unique items to attract customers.
In his address, Bamon Kampu ZP member Golmei Kachung called upon VLFs for producing different products and informed that loans could be taken from banks if there is need for monetary aid.
Presided over by Chanam Sandrok GP pradhan Kang-bam Sundar, the inaugural programme was also attended by representatives of different line departments and officials of MSRLM.
