Kakching, July 14 2022:
While assuring fair distribution of urea among the farmers of his constituency, Wabagai MLA Dr Usham Deben has said that he will resign from his membership of the state legislative assembly if urea procured in his name were found diverted to areas beyond Wabagai assembly constituency.
Addressing a joint press conference with Hiyanglam MLA Dr Yumnam Radheshyam at Wabagai Lamkhai community hall on Thursday, Dr Deben decried the allegations levelled by Loumee Sinmee Apun Lup (LOUSAL) of 400 bags of urea procured in his name being found in a storehouse of a private individual and the subsequent case taken up by the agriculture department.
In fact, he took the urea on loan from Hiyanglam MLA Dr Radheshyam for distribution among the farmers of Wabagai Lamkhai area and he kept them in the storehouse of his agriculture nominee, the MLA explained.
The MLA further said that he had distributed 2000 bags of urea to farmers of his constituency through respective polling committees.
However, there was some shortage of urea and procurement of another 2000 bags of urea was delayed due to some issues.
Since most of the farmers of Wabagai Lamkhai area were not covered in the first phase, their demand for urea grew intense.
Consequently, he took 400 bags of urea from Dr Y Radheshyam on loan as an interim measure for the farmers of Wabagai Lamkhai area.
MLA Radheshyam extended helping hand to him considering the plights of the farmers and he kept the urea in the storehouse of his agriculture nominee Haribala's husband Naorem Shanta for distribution to farmers.
As his nominee was preparing for distributing the urea along with Kakching District United Clubs' Organisation (KADUCO), LOUSAL team made misleading allegations through the media.
Besides, the storehouse is not outside Wabagai assembly constituency but in the constituency itself.
In the earlier distribution too, he kept urea for the farmers of the area in the same storehouse.
It would be better if LOUSAL contacted him before making such baseless claim through the media, Dr Deban said while confiding that he is requesting the chief minister, agriculture minister and department concerned to provide at least 8000 bags of urea for his constituency so that no farmers face shortage.
Meanwhile, Dr Radheshyam said that distribution of urea is carried out in phased manner and he had distributed urea to the farmers of his constituency twice in the past.
For the third phase, he was approved to lift 1500 bags of urea on July 8.In the meantime, MLA Deben requested him to loan 400 bags of urea citing demands from his constituency's farmers while assuring to return the same when he received his constituency's share.
Considering his situation and the grievances of the farmers, he agreed and loaned him 400 bags of urea, Dr Radheshyam explained, while urging all concerned not to give misleading statements over the matter.
