Imphal, October 07 2021:
National People's Party (NPP) state working president MLA L Jayantakumar has said that not Congress, but NPP has become the main rival of BJP in the state.
Addressing a public meeting held at Khwairakpam Leikai community hall in Keishamthong assembly constituency on Thursday, Jayantakumar said that the political scenario in the state has taken a drastic change in the past few years.
The situation is no longer what was expected by different political parties.
Earlier, Congress was considered the biggest rival of BJP but the party no longer holds this position today.
Instead, NPP has become the main rival of BJP and the main reason behind this change is the resignation of MPCC president Govindas Konthoujam and subsequent entry to BJP, which projects Congress as an unviable party to the public, he said.
In the light of these recent changes, there are reports of BJP paying more attention to NPP during its election strategy meetings.
BJP sees NPP as its main rival in the valley and NPF in the hills.
In another word, BJP has started fearing NPP rather than Congress and this shows the rising wave of NPP in the state and the whole northeast region.
Every political party has their own constitution, agenda and ideologies.
However, people are now seeing NPP as a viable option for the northeast states including Manipur due to its ideologies and stand on regionalism, he said.
Jayantakumar further said that the party will soon publish its election manifesto which will reflect the party's vision with regard to public aspiration, cultural heritage, sporting prowess and skill & abilities of the youth of the northeast region.
In the last assembly election, Congress won 28 seats and BJP won 21 seats but in the 2022 election, both parties will win reduced number of seats and those seats will come to NPP.
The party is confident of winning a minimum of 15 seats and there are also possibilities of NPP emerging as the single largest party.
In any condition, NPP will play the most crucial role in forming the next government, he contended.
