Yamthong Haokip unveils 150 ft long Khaochangbung Bailey bridge

Saikul AC MLA, Yamthong Haokip on Wednesday inaugurated the 150 feet long 'Khaochangbung Bailey bridge' connecting Gungal area with the rest of the world.
Yamthong Haokip fulfilled a long-awaited dream of the Gungal area under 46-Saikul AC by inaugurating the bridge.
The Bailey bridge was constructed over Gundung (Imphal river) under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana and the project was funded by the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India.
The construction of the bridge commenced last year in December and it was scheduled to be completed on December 2 this year.
The local MLA unveiled the inaugural monolith and cut the ribbon to mark the inauguration of the bailey bridge and declared it open for public use before Lhoukhosat Kipgen, Pastor H Molvom dedicated the bridge.

Addressing the gathering, Yamthong Haokip urged the people of Gungal area/Khaochangbung area to always stand united and said, "I am a man of work, not talk and I will show my commitment towards my people in action" .
The MLA stated that Gungal area/Khaochangbung area has been neglected for many years and development in the area has been witnessed only after he was elected to represent the people in the Manipur Legislative Assembly.
"Molvom village in Gungal/Khaochangbung area is one of the oldest villages in Manipur but no development could be witnessed for the past many years owing to the absence of road connectivity which was my concerned and priority right after my election to the Manipur Legislative Assembly", he added.
Moreover, Sathaolen, chief of Khaochangbung submitted a memorandum on behalf of the Gungal Area Chiefs' Association urging the local MLA to install a transformer of 63 W and a retaining wall at the abutment area of the bridge.
The new Bailey bridge will not only connect Gungal area with the rest of the world but would also serve as another lifeline for the people of Saikul area as it connects Saikul hill town with National Highway 2 at Keithelmanbi.
