Imphal, December 03 2022:
As part of the ongoing relay hunger strike launched by All Manipur Health Services Doctors Association (AMHSDA), a sit-in-protest was staged on Saturday in front of Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Imphal East office at Porompat.
During the protest, CMO Imphal East Dr L Indira told media persons that all the eight demands raised by AMHSDA are reasonable and the authority concerned should consider the demands.
According to Dr L Indira, many doctors have retired without getting any promotion despite rendering their services for the people for a long time.
Even though Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced enhancement of superannuation age for government doctors to 65 years from 62 years, the state health department is yet to implement this policy and retirement age for government doctors remains at 62 years.
Creating a new post of director for health and medical education in addition to the existing two directors for health services and family welfare will be helpful in running the department properly, Dr L Indira suggested.
She also appealed to people to extend support to the on -going strike by government doctors.
