Students familiarised on electoral process

Electoral Literacy Club (ELC) organised campaigns under the slogan 'No Voter To Be Left Behind' at Saikul (ST), Kangpokpi and Saitu (ST) assembly constituencies of Kangpokpi district on Friday The campaigns were held at Thangtong Higher Secondary School and Good Samaritan Public School in Saikul AC; Diamond English High School and Parizeau Maranathan Academy in Kangpokpi AC;and Mega Public School, Motbung in Saitu AC.
SVEEP materials were also distributed to differently-abled persons on the occasion of International Day of Persons with Disabilities in Saitu AC.
Deliberation on election process by dedicated assistant electoral officers with students, and conduct of quiz and games were part of the activities of the ELC campaigns, followed by distribution of t-shirts and caps to the students.
It is worth mentioning here that, Electoral Literacy Club is a platform to engage school students through interesting activities and hands-on experience to sensitise them on their electoral rights and familiarise them with the electoral process of registration and voting.
ELCs are also set up in colleges and rural communities.
At ELCs, learning meets fun as activities and games are designed to stimulate and motivate students prodding them to think and ask questions.
Through ELC, Election Commission of India (ECI) aims at strengthening the culture of electoral participation among young and future voters.
In Kangpokpi district, ELC District Committee has been formed with district election ofhcer/deputy commissioner as the chairperson.
EROs/SDOs are the chairperson for the ELC AC Level Committee.
On the other hand, eight (8) schools have been identified as ELCs - three in Saikul AC, two in Kangpokpi AC and three in Saitu AC.
