State's first birth waiting home launched in Kangpokpi

The first-ever birth waiting home in the state was launched at Community Health Centre, Saikul in Kangpokpi district on Friday.
Among others, launching of the birth waiting home was attended by NHM Manipur state nodal officer (Maternal Health) Dr Meena Seram, Kangpokpi CMO Dr Lamkhoneng Haokip, MO i/c of CHC Saikul Dr John Lupheng, NHM Kangpokpi DPM Th Prabhabati Devi, consultant MH, doctors, and staff of CHC Saikul, and AFs under CHC Saikul.
Dr Meena Seram said that with the launching of the birth waiting home at CHC Saikul, birthing facilities in the health centre would be more accessible to pregnant women from remote and far-flung areas under CHC Saikul by providing accommodation facilities in the health centre.
She continued that pregnant women from remote and far-flung areas would be made to stay in the waiting home 7 to 10 days before their expected date of delivery and they would be provided a free diet during their stay apart from providing free pick and drop facility.
"The launching of birth waiting home will increase institutional delivery which is the safest for pregnant women and the baby", added the nodal officer.
Dr Meena also appealed to the staff of CHC Saikul and the District Health Society to ensure the success of the birth waiting home initiative and assured to extend necessary help from the state.
CMO Kangpokpi Dr Lamkhoneng Haokip thanked the State Health Society, Maternal Health Division led by Dr Meena Seram for prioritising Kangpokpi district in the implementation of the scheme and also urged for continuous support to the district and the CHC Saikul in particular with regard to the maternal health programme.
The CMO Kangpokpi also assured to work for successful implementation of maternal health programme in the district.
