The International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2022 was observed today at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, Palace Compound under the aegis of the Department of Social Welfare .
Social Welfare Minister Heikham Dingo Singh, Manipur Pollution Control Board Chairman and Waba-gai AC MLA Dr Usham Deben Singh, Naoriya Pakhanglakpa AC MLA S Kebi Devi and Additional Chief Secretary, Social Welfare P Vaiphei attended the observance as presidium members.
The observance was organised under the theme "Transforming solutions for inclusive development: The role of innovation in fuelling an accessible and equitable world" .
Students of SHEDO Chingarel opened the observance with a song and students of Government Ideal Blind School presented a group song.
Speaking as chief guest, Social Welfare Minister Heikham Dingo Singh said he was impressed by the presentations and talents of the differently abled students.
The Manipur Sangai Festival had stalls displaying and selling crafts made by differently abled persons.
The crafts were popular among the visitors, he said adding the differently abled persons have skills and talents that are commendable and worth promoting.
He said all should live together as one and none should be discriminated against.
Society will march forward when there is love and understanding, he added.
