Mark Haokip: Charge hearing on Dec 17

Session Court, Imphal West has fixed December 17 for conside-ration of the charge sheet submitted against Mark Thangmang Haokip, president of 'Government of People's Democratic Republic of Kukiland' .
Mark Thangmang Haokip (37) hails from Molnom Village, Churachandpur and he is presently lodged in Mani-pur Central Jail Sajiwa on the charge of waging/attempting to wage war against the Government of India.
The charge sheet was submitted against him by the Investigating Officer of the case Rattana Ngasepam, Additional SP (Investigative Unit), Crime Against Women, Imphal West on November 24 for taking up cognizance for trial.
Charges have been leveled against him under different Sections of IPC and 17/18 UA (P) Act.
The charge sheet alleged that during the enquiry, the accused, Mark Thangmang Haokip was active on social media platforms and his posts from time to time revealed that he was not only anti-Government but was also abetting and instigating common people to fight against the Government.
His actions tantamount to hatching conspiracy or attempting to commit or abet in commission of terrorist acts, the charge sheet reads.
He was also allegedly raising funds from different individuals for use in carrying out various terrorist activities.
His outfit was allegedly working toward destabilizing the country which is a threat to the security of the State, said the charge sheet.
Through his alleged propaganda and instigation, he had mobilized people to obstruct a tree plantation programme at Thangjing Hills, potentially causing tension between communities in the State.
Also in April last year, in defiance of the Manipur Government order, the accused had instigated people to obstruct officials of the Forest Department and Art and Culture Department who went to a reserved forest area in Koubru range for survey.
The charge sheet also mentions that the group led by the accused was running a website under the domain name www.kukigovt.com to propagate their ideas and hatch conspiracy against the Government.
Investigation allegedly established that the accused was also found guilty of forging documents for use in applying for Indian passport.
It may be noted that a close associate of Mark identified as Demmoon-mung Vaiphei alias Mang (25) of Silen Village, Bong-phajol Loktak Project was arrested on November 6 .
