Accused ITI student remanded to judicial custody

Leimapokpam Jhaljit of Maibam Leikai Liwa Lambi, a student of Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Takyelpat who tried to strangulate a lady teacher of the Institute right inside the classroom on March 26, has been remanded to judicial custody for 15 days by the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMIC) of Imphal West today.
He has been booked by Lamphel Police in FIR No.67(3)2014 Lamphel P/S under section 325, 354 and 506 of Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Meanwhile, the ITI teachers and residents of the victim's locality had a heated confrontation with police while Jhaljit was being brought to the court complex at Lamphelpat here today afternoon.
A large number of men and women gathered around the court complex waiting for the accused to be brought to the court.
At around noon, the accused Jhaljit was brought to the court complex by police in a Toyota Car, which had no registration number.
Some people spotted the accused and tried to attack him while he was being taken to the courtroom.
But, the police tightened up the security and prevented Jhaljit from the mob attack.
A large number of men and women, who had gathered around the court complex, then began to shout slogans demanding the police to handover the accused.

After being produced before the Judicial Magistrate, a team of Lamphel Police swiftly took away the accused in a Gypsy.
But, the mob outside the court complex tried to block the vehicle by pelting stones, eggs and water bottles.
The police somehow managed to take away the accused Jhaljit safely from the court complex, but continued to confront with the mob.
The police personnel even resorted to baton charge to quell the mob.
One teacher of ITI was even arrested by police on charges of pelting stones, but he was released later in the evening.
On the other hand, the employees of all ITIs of the State today staged a sit-in at the premises of ITI, Takeypat decrying the attempt to strangulate a lady teacher by a second semester student of the Institute right inside the classroom.
