Dimapur, January 23 2014 :
All the Manipur and Nagaland bound vehicles including private, passenger and goods transportations will be affected for four days straight starting from January 24 following the Karbi Anglong district total bandh called by Karbi Peoples Liberation Tigers (KPLT), a powerful militant outfit operating in Karbi Anglong, neighbouring Nagaland.
According to the Karbi militant organisation, the bandh will be called for 96 hours beginning from January 24 morning, which would mean for four days straight and to be concluded at 5 am of January 28, to boycott the Republic Day celebration.
KPLT considers the "Indian Republic as worthless".
It further said the Republic Day should be viewed as a 'black day'.
"People should abstain from observing Indian Republic day", the Karbi militant outfit urged.
This announcement of the Karbi militants has come even as the Journalists Forum of Assam had asked the people in the region to defy the 'diktats' of the various militant organisations to boycott the Republic Day.
Journalists Forum of Assam had said, "The people should celebrate both Republic Day and Independence Day to pay homage to the thousands of martyrs of our freedom struggle.
Every Indian citizen should show respect to the national flag on these two sacred days as the Tri-colour symbolises the sufferings and sacrifices of our freedom fighters" .
Again, few days ago various militant groups from Assam, Manipur, Tripura, Meghalaya and elsewhere had announced to boycott the Republic Day.
Meanwhile, following the announcement, transporters are making hasty move to reach their destinations before the bandh.
