Court fines poacher

A poacher of Thoubal district was penalised by a Court with a fine of Rs 4000 for poaching migratory birds.
In an attempt to curb the activities of poachers by trapping migratory birds in Thoubal district, PFA Thoubal carried out a mission at Ikop Lake from Athokpam area on a solid input, a PFA statement said.
At about 2.30 am yesterday a strong team moved to Ikop lake from Athokpam.
Amid the chilling winter night the PFA team waited for the poachers to arrive at the lake to collect their catches.
After waiting for hours amid chilling cold which could only be faced by patience, experience and a strong will, the PFA team conducted a check on every person returning from Ikop Lake.
Among them one Athokpam Sanayaima (28) S/o (L) A Natum of Athokpam Mayai Leikai was apprehended along with three wild ducks.
Sanayaima was handed over to Forest Range officer, Thoubal for necessary action.
PFA was informed by forest officials that the accused was produced before the court and imposed a fine of Rs 4000, the statement said.
The birds were released back to the wild after applying a separate petition to the court by PFA.
Sanayaima was apprehended earlier by PFA for poaching and was convicted for the same, it added.
