Two labourers abducted; another labourer and driver rescued

Two labourers have been reportedly abducted by suspected militants for ransom from Sadar Hills in Senapati district of Manipur even as police have managed to rescue an abducted mini truck driver and a labourer on Thursday.
Police sources said a head mason and a mohori are now traceless after they were abducted by suspected hill based militants for ransom from New Boljang village, about 12 km south-east of Saikul Police Station under Senapati district last night.
Armed militants numbering about 10 came at about and 6 pm and abducted the two labourers from New Boljang LP School where they were staying in connection with construction of a bridge for the last couple of weeks.
Another four labours were also staying with them there.
However, they left after the abduction incident.
Police identified the abducted mohori as Thangjam Dilip Meitei (58) of Yumnam Khunou while the head mason as Oinam Kellon Meitei (56) of Eshikha in Imphal East district.
Police further said that the armed militants abducted the duo along with the village chief and the secretary, but the militants freed the village chief and the secretary on the fringe of the village, telling them that the head mason and the mohori would be taken to their camp to meet their leader.
A case has been registered with the Saikul Police Station over the incident.
On the other hand, the abducted DI mini truck driver Maibam Tomba of Charangpat Nepra Company and labourer Thongam Shanta of Thoubal Athokpam in Thoubal district were rescued by a combined team of security personnel during operation an launched at Koubru Leikhai area under Sapermeina Police Station this evening.
They were reportedly abducted by militants for ransom from Kanglatongbi, Sadar Hills in Senapati district on the night of January 17 .
A combined team of security personnel from Imphal West district police commandos and 44 Assam Rifles rescued the duo from Bhimparao hillock, a Nepalese village located opposite to Koubru Leikha, at 4:15 pm today, police sources informed.
The sources further informed that the rescued operation was launched from 3 pm yesterday onward under the supervision of Dr S Ibomcha, Deputy Superintendant of Police (Operation), Imphal West.
Sekmai Police commando officer in-charge, Inspector P Sanjay, Imphal West police commando OC, P John, Lamshang Police commando OC, Inspector James Thangal, Wangoi police commando OC, Inspector N Sadananda, and Sekmai Police Station OC, Ak Premjit took part in the operation assisted by personnel of 44 AR.
Police said six armed men had abducted the duo for a ransom of Rs one and a half crore.
They were kept at Sekpijang village under Senapati the night the militants abducted them from Kanglatongbi and subjected to beatings and tortures.
The next day, they were taken to Bhimparao hillock where they were kept in captivity.
However, the six militants fled the area after they received information that the security forces had begun the rescue operation yesterday, police said.
