Senapati, January 23 2014 :
The United Naga Council's sponsored 12 hours shut down in Naga areas passed off without any hitch in Senapati district.
Educational institutions and business establishments remained closed while other commercial activities also came to a grinding halt during the bandh period.
No untoward incident has been reported in other places of the district like Mao, Maram, Tadubi besides Senapati headquarters.
Passenger carriers as well as trucks loaded with essential commodities coming from outside the State along NH-2 were seen stranded at Mao Gate.
The stranded trucks started proceeding towards Imphal after 6pm as usual.
Inter-district passenger carriers stayed off the road.
The bandh was called by the UNC to protest the Joint Secretary of MHA, Shambhu Singh's alleged provocative statement and to seek the Government of India's intervention to the demand for Alternative Arrangement.
The UNC had also called for a peaceful abstention from the Republic Day to demonstrate the displeasure of the Nagas in Manipur over the alleged wilful insult to the Naga people.
