MLA Joykisan demands House probe into IMC scam

Imphal, July 13 2022: Expressing concern over the delay in the enquiry into a multi-crore scam in Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC), Thangmeiband MLA Kh Joykisan said that he will bring up the matter in the state assembly and ensure enquiry into the scam by a house committee if the enquiry report is not made public soon.

Addressing a press meet at his residence here on Wednesday, Joykisan said that corporator Gangmei Gaidon Rongmei is in judicial custody and service of one section officer has been terminated while four other SOs have been suspended in connection with withdrawal of huge fund for IMC projects without actual execution of the works.

Though IMC initiated an enquiry and took up certain actions, it is still not clear if IMC has taken up any steps to recover the embezzled fund, he said.

Some of the SOs, while providing a list of works, whose funds have been withdrawn without actual work execution, confessed that some of the corporators even pointed guns at them for not releasing the bills.

Considering the confessions and nature of the scam, it is clear that some other corporators are also involved in the scam but no actions have been taken up against them till date, he said and added that he will bring up the matter for discussion and necessary measures in the upcoming state assembly session.
