MSF seizes single use plastic items

Imphal, July 13 2022:
Volunteers of Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) seized banned single use plastic products from shops in Imphal area on Wednesday.
Talking to media persons in this regard at its office, MSF general secretary Hi-jam Roshan pointed out that the state cabinet approved Manipur Plastic Policy 2022 with Forest, Environment & Climate Change department as enforcement authority.
Subsequently, single used plastic has been banned as it affects the environment.
However, as the banned single use plastic items were found sold openly at shops in Imphal and authorities concerned failed to take necessary actions, MSF launched drives in Alu Gulli and Jiri parking areas during which large quantity of single use plastic items were seized from Amen Plastic Allied Production, Trepty Enterprises, Ganesh Shop and RK Trading, he informed.
The seized plastic items will be handed over to the authorised collection centre approved by Manipur Pollution Control Board for use as road construction material, Roshan informed, while urging enforcement authority to look into the matter seriously and seize the 'banned items' .
For Bishnupur, the district administration had already declared of taking actions if single use plastics were used or sold from August 1, he added.
Urging the people to stop using banned single use plastic, he also demanded the government to give awareness to the people on the items that are considered as single use plastic.
