African Swine Fever reported in Sekmai

Imphal, July 13 2022:
Subsequent to con firmation of positive cases of African Swine Fever (ASF) in pigs at Sekmai Thanga Leikai in Imphal West district and in view of the impending threat of the disease, Imphal West district magistrate Th Kirankumar declared the said locality as "Controlled Areas" for ASF with immediate effect.
In a notification, the District Magistrate informed that under Section 7 of The Prevention and Control of Infectious and Contagious Diseases in Animals Act, 2009, no pig (dead or alive) shall be moved from the place where it is kept within the controlled area.
Stating that it has imposed ban on sale of pig, pork, feed, and related items and scavenging of pigs, the DM also declared areas within 1 Km radius from the Epicentre of the disease as "Infected Zone" and within 9 km radius outside the Infected zone as "Surveillance Zone" for taking up control and containment procedures.
Any persons/institution/ organisation found violating any of the containment measures shall be deemed to have committed an offence punishable under the said Act, Kirankumar cautioned.
