5-day Waree Leeba Festival commences

A 5-day Waree Leeba Festival kicked off today at Shri Shri Radha Madhop Mandap at Wahengbam Leikai today.
The festival is organised by the Repertory of Waree Leeba, Manipur in association with Shri Shri Radha Madhop Sat Sang-ga Lup under the aegis of Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi.
The inaugural function was attended by Director, Department of Art & Culture, Lourembam Kishworjit, member of NEZCC-Dimapur, Saratchand Thiyam (Sarathi) and president of Shri Shri Radha Madhop Sat Sang-ga Lup, Hanjabam Budhachadra Sharma as the chief guest, guest of honour and president respectively.
The Waree Leeba festival is being organised with the sole objective of safeguarding the dying art form of 'Waree Leeba' .
Ten selected artists from five districts of Manipur namely Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal, Kakching, Bishnupur are participating in the festival.
Speaking at the occasion, Lourembam Kishworjit highlighted the need to preserve the unique Waree Leeba artform as it has many valuable insights about societal norms, culture and tradition.
He went on to state that the particular artform acts as a mode to impart such useful knowledge to the upcoming generation.
Lastly he called for concerted efforts from all especially the youths to strive for the protection of this dying art form.
