In view of the positive potential offered by the Krishi Vikash Yojana, under the sponsorship of Ministry of Agriculture, implementation of the scheme has been initiated in the state for the farmers.
This was stated by Deputy Director (Soil Chemist) of Agriculture department, Ph Rajendro at the one-day training on soil health and fertility management at Wangoi Bazar Community Hall, Wangoi.
The training programme was organised by the Development Committee, Wangoi under the sponsorship of Agriculture department under Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India.
Ph Rajendro said, implementation of Krishi Vikash Yojana scheme has been initiated since three years back.
But the same could not be materialised till date due to some gap with the allied departments.
He said, Agriculture department is the nodal agency for the implementation of KVY scheme.
The allied departments included Horticulture, Veterinary, Fisheries, CADA, Cooperative, Forest and Minor Irrigation.
Rajendro said that all the allied departments are now ready for the scheme.
The scheme has been implemented in the rest of the country since three years.
The application of System of Rice Intensification (SRI) ensures soil health and fertility.
1.95 acre of land has been tried successfully in Imphal East and Imphal West districts.
He said, the Minister concerned is persuaded to avail soil testing kits on lower prices so that all farmers are able to conduct soil testing.
He said, the farmers are now enabled to cultivate different plants throughout the year thanks to agriculture revolution in the state.
The farmers need to use green manures to ensure soil fertility so as the state can be dependent on agriculture products.
Former Chief Minister, W Nipamcha, who attended the function as the chief guest, said that farming is not uncomplicated profession.
Farmers should be more careful on using their mind and strength.
The function was attended among others by Director of Agriculture department L Palindro as the president while the guests of honour were Deputy Director (Planning) of the Agriculture department, G Samu Kabui and District Agriculture Officer of Imphal West, RK Nony.
