Imphal, January 19 2010:
The 43rd (XLIII) general conference of Koireng (Koren) Youth Organisation, Manipur was celebrated today at Ngairong village in Churachandpur district amidst much fanfare.
The function was graced by MP of Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency, Thangso Baite and Zeite Chungsek Koireng, president of Koireng Youth Organisation as the chief guest and president respectively.
President of All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO), R Yangsosang Koireng; vice-president of AMUCO, KT Rahman; former president of United Committee Manipur (UCM), Konsam Lanngamba Meetei and leaders of several organisations have attended the function.
Speaking on the occasion, MP Thangso Baite acknowledged that Manipur is a home to various indigenous communities, big and small.
Koireng is one among them.
There are communities with population below 1000 mark.
The fact that various communities live together in a pluralistic society like Manipur in peace indicates that there is a bone of integration among all communities in the state.
This also tells that all communities of the state respect each others' identity and culture, Thangso Baite said.
He said, every tribe is complaining of negligence on the part of the authority that-be.
He stressed that development of a concerned tribe or community will not come with assistance from others.
It would be futile if not development schemes are implemented properly.
He urged all concerned to cultivate the habit of implementing development schemes properly.
Thangso said that it is time for the male population of the state to introspect on why they are still idling while the women counterpart struggled for livelihood.
One should remember his duties instead of demanding only his rights.
AMUCO president, R Yangsosang Koireng said, number game is the major player in democracy.
As such, when it comes to the matter of development, communities with less population are automatically sidelined.
He lamented that the Centre and Manipur government did nothing for the welfare of the indigenous communities.
Konsam Langamba said, developmental projects should be given to every tribe percentage-wise in order to ensure equal development of all communities.
Cultural dance presentation from various communities marked the day's programme.
The programme will go on till January 23 .
