The state government has decided to evict encroachers at National Institute of Technology (NIT) site at Lamphelpat, Education Minister, L Jayentakumar said today.
L Jayentakumar said that NIT in-charge of the North East, PK Moss of Tripura recently visited the NIT site at Lamphelpat.
He was said to have informed the authority concerned that the NIT, which would also open School of Economics, would need 500-1000 acres of land.
The institute will accommodate 160 students.
Fifty percent of the seat (80 seats) is reserved for Manipur while the rest will be filled by students from other states.
Chief Minister O Ibobi is also said to have initiated measures for the early completion of the NIT.
He also reportedly intimated departments concerned for the early completion of the construction.
This has necessitated the eviction of the settlers at the site, Jayentakumar said.
He noted that many signboards of individuals and organisations are displayed at the site.
He said, the government will ensure early completion of the establishment of the NIT in the state, which has been started since 2007 .
