In what could be described as drug-fuelled boldness a 24-year old dared to steal a close circuit television (CCTV) camera installed inside the ATM counter of SBI, Manipur University branch.
However, video footage captured in the CCTV led to the youth's arrest, who also reportedly disclosed to the police of being a habitual drug user.
according to a police report, the youth identified as Md Iqbal Ahmad (24) of Lilong Leihao Makhong stole the camera on January 16 at about 4 pm.
The CCTV footage showed Iqbal entering the Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) counter posing as a customer and staying inside for some time during which other customers were kept at bay.
As the other customers either walked away or were not paying attention, Iqbal began to unplug the camera cables and tucked the electronic gadget inside a bag be had brought inside.
With the bank staff detecting the theft the next day and subsequently informing the matter to the police the video recordings were reviewed during which the entire scene came to light.
Even the police were on the look-out for Iqbal, the 24-year old showed up this afternoon at the same bank with the same dress he had worn on the day he stole the camera.
The bank employees apprehended Iqbal before being handed over to the police.
on his disclosure, the camera has also been recovered but iqbal had been handed over to family elders as his health condition was not appropriate for detention, added a police source.
