Imphal, January 19 2010:
Buses under Indo-Burma Sugnu Road Bus Owners' Welfare Union, Imphal decided not to pay tax to the state government and any organisation operating both in the hill and the valley.
This was decided by the board directors of the Indo-Burma Sugnu Road Bus Owners' Welfare Union at a meeting on January 15, a statement issued by the secretary of the union, A Priyokumar informed.
The statement pointed out that granting carrier permit at every stage to Tata Magic and diesel fueled auto vehicles has caused immense hardship to the bus owners.
At this critical juncture, it is very tough for the bus owners to pay annual tax to the government or others.
The union has been demanding formulation of concrete transport policy since long time back, it stated.
Further, the statement informed that the protest would be called off in case the government comes out with the transport policy by March.
