SIT conducts spot inquiry

Imphal, January 19 2010:
Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today conducted spot investigation into the July 23, 2009 broad daylight shootout incident at BT Road Khwairamband Bazar that killed former militant, Ch Sanjit and a housewife, Rabina by the police commandos.
The Central investigative agency took up the investigation of the case registered following a directive of the Gauhati High Court, Imphal Bench passed on January 2, 2010 .
Accordingly, CBI, Imphal branch has registered a case on January 16 last under section 302, 34 IPC and section 27 (3) Arms Act against unknown persons of Manipur police, a PIB, Imphal statement informed.
The special investigation team (SIT) headed by IGP-cum-Joint Director, CBI, New Delhi comprising two DIGs, two SPs, a team of experts of Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL), CBI and medical experts from Regional Institute of Medical Science, Imphal constituted to investigate into the case, currently camping in Imphal conducted spot verification this afternoon.
Earlier, the SIT team had earlier called on with the Senior SP of Imphal west district and collected all the relevant dossiers and evidences collected by the police during its investigation after the court directive.
