Imphal, January 19 2010:
Reverberating with the call on the youth to understand their responsibilities in the society, the 43rd general conference cum annual sports meet of Koren (Koireng) Youth Organisation (KYO), Manipur has begun from today at Ngairong village in Churachandpur district.
The 43rd general conference cum annual sports meet of KYO which was established under the motto of 'Rise, Act and Shine' would continue till January 23 .
Speaking as chief guest of the inaugural function, MP of Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency Thangso Baite pointed out that youth have great responsibilities toward bringing about development and peace in the State.
Observing that Manipur is a home to many small communities, Thangso Baite noted that disintegration among people of these small communities would automatically lead to sweeping away of Manipuri society in the strong current of globalisation.
So, over and above the common goal of working for unity among the people and bring out peace and development in the State, the youth of all communities should come together and understand their respective responsibility towards the society, he added.
Speaking as one of the special invitees of the inaugural function attended by KYO president Zeite Chungsek Koireng and ex-Minister Chungei Haokip as functional president and guest of honour respectively, former president of United Committee Manipur (UCM) K Langamba asserted that the existing administrative and developmental policies in Manipur today have become not suitable with the changing time.
If these outdated policies were not amended, the future of Manipuri society which has an illustrious history of own for over 2000 years would become bleak.
AMUCO president and former KYO president R Yangsosong Koireng, who was also present and spoke at the occasion contended that the system of development being followed in India today in the name of democracy has in fact led to suppression of the smaller communities instead of allowing them space for growth and development.
So we should not keep quite when this system that does not ensure equal development becomes an instrument for creating division among the people.
It is here that youth who are the hope for tomorrow have to play their part in overhauling the existing ineffective system, he exhorted.
In continuation of the function, cultural troupes of Longa Koireng Youth Club, Ngairong Youth Club, Utonglok Youth Club and Sadu Koireng Youth Club presented dances and songs.
Later in the afternoon, football matches were organised as part of the annual sports meet.
