Ukhrul, October 01 2021:
Halang Village Authority on Friday organised a grand ceremony seeking divine blessings for intending BJP candidate Ningam Chamroy, who is running for the forthcoming Manipur State General Elections 2022 from Chingai Assembly Constituency.
A crowd of around 1800 including representatives of BJP Ukhrul district and Chingai Mandal and village headmen and chairmen from different villages under Chingai AC took part in the ceremony held at Halang village, located about 15 km north of Ukhrul town.
The retired bureaucrat is currently seeking the blessings of BJP high command for the party ticket to run for the coming elections.
He is pitted against another intending BJP candidate from the same constituency (former deputy speaker, MLA) Preshaw Shimray for the ticket.
What marked the piece de resistance of the ceremony was a religious act of blessing administered by headman Wungmaling Huileng and elders of 14 clans from his ancestral village.
They invoked divine intervention for the success of Chamroy in securing the saffron party ticket and in the coming elections.
Speaking on the occasion, Chamroy said that he's deeply heartened by the overwhelming turn-out of the people at the event, while expressing gratitude to his ancestral village for holding the blessing ceremony in his honour.
He said that service to the people has remained his burning dream, even after he retired from his bureaucratic career.
"With such an outpouring of support from you all, I'm confident that we will definitely triumph in the coming elections," he remarked in an excited tone.
He continued that seeing the public support, he was encouraged to look forward to serving the public to live up to their expectations.
According to Chamroy, every elected people's representative has immense responsibilities to keep the people informed of any government policies, decisions, and benefits of different schemes.
He then urged the gathering to keep in mind the people's aspirations for growth and development when choosing their elected representatives.
Touching upon a different matter, he said that Christians often demurred "if BJP is against Christianity?" "The truth is that it isn't.BJP party has nothing to do with any religious matters, it's a political party that understands the people's sentiments," he said.
On the contrary, the party at the Centre is negotiating to resolve the age-old Naga political issue, he said, calling it as a struggle for political revolution.
Several elders who spoke on the occasion showed their support for Chamroy in the coming elections.
Adding recreation and colours to the day's proceedings, popular local singers Ngathingpam Tangva and Chungsangla Jajo and upcoming artistes Yarshim Wungsek and Winso Chamroy enthralled the gathering with their musical performances.
Halang youth club also presented a cultural dance show to honour Chamroy.
