CCpur, October 01 2021:
Peeved with the failure of the state government to introduce the Manipur (Hill Areas) Autonomous District Council (ADC) Bill 2021 recommended by the Hill Areas Committee (HAC) and taking strong exception to the government's "Go to Hill 2.0", All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur (ATSUM) held a consultative meeting with CSO leaders of the district at Simte Inn on Friday.
The consultative meeting was attended by leaders of All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM), Kuki Students' Organisation - General Headquarters, Zomi Students' Federation (ZSF) General HQ and Hmar Students' Association (HAS), General Headquarters.
Also present on the occasion were leaders of Paite Tribe Council (PTC), Simte Tribe Council (STC), United Zou Organisation, Zoumi Sang Naupang Pawl (ZSP), and Gangte Students' Organisation (GSO), apart from other small tribe leaders.
During the meeting, all the leaders present expressed dissatisfaction over the refusal of the state government to table the Manipur (Hill Areas) ADC Bill, 2021 and they unanimously agreed to back ATSUM and work in tandem with the student body, while appreciating the lead role played by the union.
The joint consultative decided to press the state government to convene a special Manipur Legislative Assembly for tabling the HAC recommended ADC Bill 2021 and issued a joint declaration for the purpose.
The reason for withdrawal of the Manipur Legislative Assembly speaker s order was declared unacceptable by the congregation as it was not based on the Rules of Procedures and Conduct of Business in the Manipur Legislative Assembly with Art 371C.The decision of ATSUM to boycott the state government programme "Go to Hills 2.0" has been endorsed and the boycott movement will continue till the HAC Bill 2021 is tabled and the speaker's order is withdrawn with appropriate reason, the meeting resolved.
