Arms missing case : Court extends interim bail by 25 days

The Court of Special Judge NIA Manipur has extended the interim bail of United Kuki Liberation Front (UKLF) chairman Lhukoson Haokip @ Soson, accused in the arms missing case from 2nd Manipur Arms Kote for medical treatment by another 25 days .
Lhukhoson Haokip (47) s/o (L) M Thangjapao of Khanbarol village Chandel surrendered before the Court after the completion of 11 days interim bail on medical grounds along with a prayer for extending his bail for a month to undergo proper medical treatment.
The Court heard the defence counsel of Lhukhoson Haokip and Special PP NIA and perused material on records.
The defence counsel submitted that the accused, while on interim bail, followed the conditions imposed by the Court and has been undergoing treatment.
He (the accused) has been advised to take complete bed rest for at least 30 days and report regularly for check up, said the defence counsel.
It was further submitted that the health of the accused is not stable and in no condition for detention.
The defence counsel also submitted that the case has already been charge-sheeted and there is no room for tempering any evidence.
While on interim bail, the accused was not called by the NIA, the defence counsel said and filed a medical report of the accused.
On the other hand, Special PP NIA submitted that said that the accused may be lodged in the security ward of JNIMS with an order from the Court wherein due medical aid can be provided in all manners.
Saying that custodial interrogation of the accused may be required at any point of time, the Special PP claimed that there are also chances of tempering prosecution evidence if the interim bail is extended.
The Special PP also submitted that the accused may be referred to a State medical board so as to ascertain his exact health status.
From the medical reports submitted by the accused, the Court observed that the accused indeed has undergone treatment for different ailments.
The Court extended the interim bail of the accused till October 25 on the condition that he shall cooperate in the investigation of the case and not leave the State without the permission of the Court.
Mention may be made that the self styled chairman of United Kuki Liberation Front (UKLF) Lhunkhoson Haokip surrendered himself on September 16 in connection with the case and filed bail application on medical grounds.
He was announced as a proclaimed offender by the Court on August 27, 2019 in connection with the arms missing case.
Lhunkhoson Haokip @ Soson is listed as accused number 12 in the NIA chargesheet.
