Governor, CM lead in extending Gandhi Jayanti wishes

Governor La Ganesan and Chief Minister N Biren Singh led in extending their best wishes to the people of the State on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, 2021 which is also celebrated as
'National Cleanliness Day' .
The Governor, in his message, stated that to ensure peace and harmony 'in our society we need to follow Gandhiji's message of peaceful coexistence for it has become increasingly relevant in the present situation of Manipur which is representative of a miniature India' .
He said that Mahatma Gandhi led the Nation in its struggle for freedom from British colonial rule by using non-violence (Ahimsa) as his most powerful weapon.
The Governor referred to him as a 'Karmayogi', an apostle of truth and non-violence, a symbol of indomitable power of the soul who stood for the cause of the down-trodden and oppressed not only in India but also in other parts of the world.
La Ganesan called upon the present generation to imbibe the virtue of non-violence, tolerance and humanism from the life of Mahatma Gandhi so as to usher in a new era of hope and prosperity.
He further urged the people to keep one's surroundings clean and to maintain the state of cleanliness as a regular feature to make the National Cleanliness Day meaningful.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh stated that Mahatma Gandhi was an apostle of non-violence, equality, harmonious co-existence, mutual respect and religious tolerance.
He added that Gandhiji's ideals, principles and philosophy have eternal value and are still relevant in this day and age.
N Biren Singh appealed to the people to ensure that Gandhiji's views 'remain integral to our consciousness' .
Works Minister Th Biswajit Singh and Law & Legislative Affairs Minister Th Satyabrata Singh have also extended their greetings on the occasion.
Th Biswajit in his message called Gandhiji a pioneer of truth who worked hard to achieve swaraj and called upon the people to follow the path of truth and non-violence and dedicate themselves towards promoting goodwill, tolerance and harmony.
Th Satyabrata mentioned Gandhiji's Dandi Salt March and Quit India Movement in his message and deemed him instrumental in abolishing the age-old practice of 'untouchability'.
He urged the people to honour Gandhiji for his non-violent ways and to pay homage for his invaluable contribution to India's freedom struggle.
