Governor, others extend Gandhi Jayanti greetings

Governor of Manipur La Ganesan, chief minister N Biren, speaker Y Khemchand and ministers extended greetings to the people of Manipur on the auspicious occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, the Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi which is also observed every year as National Cleanliness Day.
In his message, Governor La Ganesan said that Mahatma Gandhi's message for peaceful co-existence has become increasingly relevant in the present situation of Manipur which is a representative of miniature India.
The Governor will also attend as chief guest of the National Cleanliness Day function at Gandhi Memorial Hall on Saturday.
Chief minister N Biren also extended wishes to the people of Manipur and said that Mahatma Gandhi was an apostle of non-violence, equality, harmonious co-existence, mutual respect and religious tolerance.
Manipur Legislative Assembly speaker Khemchand, Works/RD&PR minister Th Biswajit and CAF&PD minister Th Satyabrata also extended greetings on the auspicious occasion.
Mahatma Gandhi was a pioneer of truth and non-violence who started the Sa-tyagraha movement for India's freedom.
He had also worked hard for achieving swaraj, removing social evils, improving economic condition of farmers, empowering women rights, among several other, the messages read.
