Rifleman kills fellow escort, arrested

In a very shocking incident, a Rifleman of 7th Manipur Rifles succumbed to bullet injury after his colleague shot him on his face with service rifle inside a security barrack located at the residence of BJP State unit president, A Sharda Devi at Brahmapur Aribam Leikai this morning.
The deceased has been identified as A Bimolchandra Sharma (53) of Naharup Mayai Leikai.
According to information culled from the spot, the incident occurred at around 9.45 am following a scuffle between the two MR personnel who are deployed as security escorts of BJP State Unit president at Adhikarimayum Leirak in Brahmapur Aribam Leikai under Porompat police station.
The two MR personnel reportedly entered into some arguments before one Rifleman, Thongginthang Baite allegedly took out his service weapon and fired a round of bullet on the face of fellow Rifleman A Bimolchandra Sharma.
Most of the security escorts were not present during the incident as some were preparing lunch while others were at the sentry post, said police.
The fellow personnel rushed inside the barrack on hearing the gun shot and found A Bimolchandra Sharma of Naharup lying on the ground with a bullet injury on his face just below the left eye.
The bullet may have exited through the back of the victim's head, the police observed.
Soon after the incident, a team of Manipur police led by ADGP L Kailun arrived at the spot and evacuated the injured Riflemen for treatment at JNIMS.
It is said that the injured personnel was shifted to Raj Medicity and has been put under observation in ICU.
In a late report, a source said that Bimolchandra breathed his last at around 7 pm.
His mortal remains have been deposited at JNIMS Morgue.
Porompat police have arrested Riflemen Thongginthang Baite of Litan and seized his service weapon (AK Rifle) .
It is said that CO of 7th Manipur Rifles and other officers of Imphal East district also arrived at the spot and inspected the site.
Further, a police team checked the arms and ammunition issued to the security escorts and counted the number of live rounds of bullets issued to them.
Security escorts were taken from the spot for a medical examination by a team of Porompat police station following the incident.
Later a team of the State Forensic Science experts arrived at the spot and examined the incident site and collected evidence from the spot.
Porompat Police have registered a case for further investigation of the case.
Mention may be made that the State BJP president had left Manipur yesterday for New Delhi to meet the Prime Minister and other senior BJP National leaders.
