Seized contraband Ganja worth 100 crores burnt

Narcotic Control Bureau (NCB) and Narcotic Affairs Border Security (NABS) along with Customs officials destroyed about 3,193 kg of Ganja (cannabis) worth around 100 crores of rupees in the international market, at Thokchom Brick Field at Koirengei today.
The 3193 kg of ganja, which was seized by NCB and NABS from various places of the State in the past one and half year, was completely destroyed by setting them on fire at a brick field in Koirengei under Imphal East district at around 8.30 am today.
176 grams of Heroin and 1,691 tablets of Amphetamine also went up in smoke with the ganja.
Speaking to reporters on the sideline of setting on fire the seized Ganga and other narcotic sunstances, Subrata Biswas, Zonal Director, NCB, Guwahati, said that the seized ganja was brought to Thokchom brick field and set it aflame into the furnace.
The destroyed ganja would worth around rupees 100 crores in the international market and around Rs 1 crore in the local market.
NCB and NABS have been working hard to seize contraband ganja from smugglers in the State for the last one and half year and the seizure of such a large quantity of ganja during this period was successful due to the inputs provided from different sources, he added.
Meanwhile, it has been reported that the seized Amphetamine tablet is a powerful and stimulating drug producing many effects including increased energy, increased alertness, euphoria and decreased appetite, and it is more powerful than the Heroin in many respects.
It cost Rs 100 per tablet and it is available at around Rs 5000 to 10000 in some of the 5 Star hotels in India.
It is highly demanded by rich businessmen of the mainland India.
