CJFD continues with street corner meetings

Imphal, August 03 2026: Street corner meetings were held at multiple places today as part of the movement demanding the updation of National Register of Citizens (NRC) before the commencement of the Census exercise.

The Campaign for Just and Fair Delimitation (CJDF), in a statement, said that the meetings were held at Kakching Keithel, Kakching Super Market, Kakching Thong, Wabagai Keithel, Mayang Imphal, Yumnam Huidrom, Thongkhong Luxmi Bazar, Wangoi, Samurou Keithel, Hiyangthang Keithel, Khurai Keithel, Khurai Popular School gate, Sawombung Lamkhai, Sawombung Kabui Khunjao Keithel, Lamlai Napetpali, Yaingangpokpi, Tellipati etc .

CJFD is not boycotting the Census, it clarified and maintained that conducting a population count before identifying illegal immigrants, however, would result in an unfair and inaccurate Census.

It further stated that the crisis in Manipur is not yet over, as internally displaced persons have not been resettled in their native places and free movement has still not been restored.

Conducting the Census under such circumstances would not result in a just and fair exercise, it added.

Saying that an ultimatum has been served to the Government to make its stand clear on the demand for updating the NRC before conducting the Census by August 6, CJFD added that a series of protests would be organised from August 7 if the demand is not addressed.

It appealed to all sections of society to extend their support to the movement.
