Imphal, February 09, 2012:
Along with staging protest demonstration in front of the Central Public works Department office at the Tulihal Airport complex, agitated contractors today shut down the said office for an undisclosed period of time.
In denunciation of alleged non clearance of bills for works executed under the Department at various places of the State, many contractors converged at the CPWD office premise from early morning today.
Talking to newspersons on the sideline of the protest, which continued till late in the afternoon, Manipur CPWD Contractors' Association president M Bimol.
It is said that about 30 local contractors had implemented building construction, road, water supply scheme and power supply works at different institutions under CPWD with the outstanding bill remaining uncleared since September 2011.Bimol claimed that the Association through a letter sent to the CPWD Director General, New Delhi on January 9 had urged the incumbent to clear the pending bills within 15 days.
As there is no positive response from the Director General the contractors were compelled to launch the strike and subsequent seal the CPWD office with immediate effect, the president informed.
Asserting that the Association has also resolved to prohibit office attendance by the CPWD employees, Bimol said the stricture will remain in force till the pending bills for works executed in between 2010 and 2011 are cleared by the authority concerned.
