Tamenglong, February 09, 2012:
In response to the call of Naga Women's Union (NWU), denizens of Tamenglong today observed public curfew from 11 am to 1 pm today.
During the public curfew, all the shops in Tamenglong district HQs remained down their shutters.
In the meantime, the Zeliangrong Puimei Baudi President Guiliangliu told this correspondent that if the government of India does listen to the voice of the Nagas for unconditional release of Anthony Ningkhan Shimray, Foreign Affairs of NSCN (I-M), then the Naga people will intensify the agitation.
On the other hand, the National Socialist Women's Organisation of Nagalim, NSWON in a press release strongly condemned the inhuman act of rape committed against a young married Naga woman by five Muslim immigrants in the evening of 6th February 2012 at Burma Camp, Dimapur.
The NSWON is shocked and angered at the audacity the heinous crime by refugees in the presence of her helpless husband and in our own soil, the press release said, adding that rape is an alien culture to the Nagas.
'Such crimes are contagious to the society and therefore, we do not only condemn it in the strongest words but also urge the authorities concerned to take stringent steps to put a total halt to such crimes once and for all', the release added.
